As the name suggests, mixed incontinence is the condition of having symptoms of both urge incontinence and stress incontinence. Patients can have a combination of symptoms of frequency, urgency, and also leaks with physical activities. In these cases, the bladder is often overactive and the urethra is under-supported.

Your physician will often address the problem by first determining which is most prevalent and then treating the primary problem first: simple sling surgery for stress incontinence or drug therapy for urge incontinence. If both issues are equally present, GMIC usually recommends treating the urge incontinence with medication first in order to calm the bladder down. If needed, the physician may also recommend the highly effective, minimally invasive surgery.

In some cases, the symptoms of one type of incontinence may improve simply by treating the other type alone.
